Colombian-born Shakira Isabel Mebarak Ripoll, better known simply as superstar singer Shakira, met with President Obama at the White House today and urged the President to approve comprehensive immigration reform legislation. According to Foreign Policy Magazine: ... Shakira isn't confining her advocacy to education; she also wants Obama to push forward on immigration reform. White House officials told Shakira that they hope to reach an agreement this year with the Republican Party to legalize undocumented immigrants, her representative said. A lot of politically active performers have been reluctant to embrace immigration reform because of fear of a tea partyish backlash....

I did my MBA in one of the premium universities in USA.
I applied for H1-B in FY 2008 under master quota from a small consulting company.
I left US on 30th Sep 2008 as I didnt get an approved petition by that time.Hence I never worked on that approved H1-B petition
I got a approved petition. I went to New Delhi consulate for H1-B stamping. However I got a Blue 221 G slip. I never submitted any document as the consultant who applied for my visa , needs lots of time to process the documents. In the mean time I got another offer from one of the fortune 500 companies in USA. I am just exploring the possibility of H1-B transfer in this case. Ofcourse they will file a new H1-B application but would I be cap-exempt in this case?
Please help!!

Wow. From The Washington Blade: Applicants for Justice Department internships and honors programs may have been rejected based on their membership in LGBT groups during the Bush administration, the Blade has learned. Numerous applicants were denied entry to the departments Honors Program and the summer intern program starting in 2006 because of their previous work in what were deemed to be liberal organizations, according to an internal Justice Department report issued last year. The practice occurred while Attorney General Alberto Gonzales led the department. The Blade recently learned that among the blacklisted groups was Immigration Equality, which focuses on LGBT-related...

Can i travel on my H1B and Advance parole (EAD) and maintain the same H1B when i come back to the US? I've heard rumors that I will be forced to use the EAD on arriving at the airport. Hence I will lose my H1B (They have been serving as backups to each other)
Here are some additional details:
- Currently working for a company as an employee on my H1B
- H1b doesn't have valid stamping (should i go that route and get that??)
- My 485 Pending. Priority date is Aug 2005 on EB3
- Indian Citizen but born in Africa (EB3 is Rest of the World)
- Have had my EAD for the past two years (havent used it).
- i switched over companies last year and ported the greencard process - AC21
- I have an expired Advance Parole i filed over an 1 1/2 years ago (never used it) and was planning on re-applying for it
- I've lived in the US for the past 15 years and have at no point been illegal.
- Planning to travel to Europe in June.

Immigration lawmakers try to pick winners and losers. The problem is that just like a broken analog clock with its hands frozen in place, the timing is mostly wrong. This brings me to one of my pet peeves. It bothers me that the immigration laws and agency regulations favor some fields of study and disfavor others. Why for example are students in the STEM subjects(Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) given 27 months of "optional practical training" -- a euphemism for work permission --- while liberal arts students get only 12 months? Do Congress and the immigration agencies think we have...

Folks,
I have a break period of 4.5 months. May 15 - Oct 1st. I was wondering if its OK if I just take a course in fall or should I enroll for summer as well. My grace period will end Jul 15th but by that time I should have an I-20 with me for Fall. Is that fine?
Please advise,
Thanks!

Hi! My company is moving to another address. My I-140 was filed on July 2, 2007 (USCIS receipt date August 20, 2007). My H-1B 6th year will end on July 1, 2009. My lawyer wants to file for the change of address and the H-1B extension together. He is asking for about $2k+ for self and family (incl atty fee and filing fees).
Is the change of address on H-1B that big a deal? Can anyone please advise? Is it not a simple AR-11 form that has to be filed? Are the requirements for change of address different once labor certification is done.
Thanks.

Hello folks. I hope someone can help me out on this issue. I applied for my wife's EAD back in July 2007. The EAD was processed in two weeks and we received the card. However, my wife's middle initial was incorrect and we sent it back to USCIS with an explaination concerning the mistake. USCIS stated that it would take anywhere from 2 months to 6 months to process the correction. Last week I received a letter from USICS stating that I need to submit a completed I-90 form. A I-90 form is used to replace a green card. We just applied for our adjustment of status in 6/2007 and are not permanent residents at this point. Getting the EAD has become a nightmare for us. Do I try and write a letter back to USCIS stating that they are asking for the wrong form. I tried to call them but they said to respond to the letter sent. I'm stuck between a rock and a hard place. Any help/advice would be appreciated.
Thanks!
Thanks!
