Hi Folks,
I got the following email from USCIS
On March 17, 2008, we mailed you a notice that we had registered this customer's new permanent resident status. Please follow any instructions on the notice. Your new permanent resident card should be mailed within 60 days following this registration or after you complete any ADIT processing referred to in the welcome notice, whichever is later. If you move before you get your new card call customer service. You can also receive automatic e-mail updates as we process your case. Just follow the link below to register.
Eventhough I did not get notice yet by mail I am little confused and concerended with their message, I have couple of questions
1) Does this really means my AOS application is approved? Is there anything else I should do?
2) what is ADIT processing that they are referening to?
Any thoughts or experiences from the gurus here is really appreciated.
Thanks in Advance
Jason

The Migration Policy Institute has released a report outlining the impact of the global downturn on the movement of immigrants. Key findings include the following: The recession has dampened the movement of economic migrants to the major immigrant-receiving regions of the world. And, counter to some widely held public perceptions, immigrants overwhelmingly are choosing to stay put in their adopted countries rather than return home despite higher unemployment and lack of jobs. While the overall picture is one of sharp remittance decline, some regions are experiencing remittance increases or are holding steady. Though remittances have dropped globally amid...

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- President Bush met Tuesday at the White House with a bipartisan group of senators to discuss ways to overhaul immigration, a chat that earned the president kudos from two men normally among his staunchest critics.
"It is important that we reform a system that is not working. It's important that we uphold the values of the United States of America. It's important that we treat people with dignity," the president said. "I strongly believe that we have a chance to get an immigration bill that is comprehensive in nature to my desk before the end of this year."

You should get to talk to USCIS coz this is wrong for sure......USCIS should issue you a new EAD with no additional cost.........Even if you do not plan to use EAD card get the issue fixed.......

Hi,
I have applied my H1 extension in Sep 2008 and got RFE in Dec. RFE was about my work address and we have sent the details. On March 2 2009 I have received the email saying Denial Notice Sent. Not sure the reason yet. I wanted to check my options. I do have EAD. But not used. What is my visa status now? I am planning to resubmit my application based on the denial notice. If I resubmit will I have status in US? Or should I work on EAD. If I work on EAD what should i do? I mean do I need to file AC21?
Please help
Thanks

According to a FAQ on Murthy.com about the Yates memo, it is possible to switch jobs (using AC21) if 140 and 485 have both have been pending 180 days. Murthy doesn't advise this under normal circustances because if an RFE is received on the 140, then it is problematic if you've left the company.

Hello,
My I-485 was filed this July. My wife and I got FP notices for Nov 20. But my wife is currently in India and I will be in India too on Nov 20. So we will have to reschedule at least for my wife.
My question is, has anyone who filed their I-485 after July 2 rescheduled their FP appt and got a new appt date? I'm in the San Jose area.
Thanks in advance.

You can even take an unpaid job/volunteer to keep you clear of the 90 days unemployed clause.
I didnt know that even the OPT rules have changed now. This is a mess.
Now OPT also you cant remain unemployed for more than 90 days. Now this OPT is becoming like another H1B.

I posted this in the Non-immigrant visa section, but I'd also like to get a professional opinion. Sorry for the double post.
I have a rather simple question to ask. I came to the US on a J2 visa with my wife who entered a Ph.D. program. Last year I was accepted into the same program, starting this fall. I didn't change my J2 to J1 because I was waiting for a TAship job offer that would grant me a fee waiver.
Now we're back in the States and there is an on-campus job opportunity that would grant me a fee waiver. I am considering either a) staying on J2 but getting a work permit or b) changing my status to J1.
What I'd like to know is, can I sign a contract with an on-campus employer and start working while my J1 change is being processed? It doesn't really matter much if this means that my paychecks will be delayed; like I said, I would welcome the opportunity to get the fee waiver.
Thanks.

Hi Gurus,
I wanted to know if I can work for H-1B with my current company which holds my H-1B and work outside with another company on EAD. Is there a chance that I may loose my H-1B status if I work with EAD.
Please let me know,
Thanks,
When you start using EAD you will lose H1 status. You can do multiple jobs on ead but not on H1

Cuban-born Andres Alonso is the CEO of the Baltimore City Schools. Alonso graduated from Columbia University before going on to get a law degree and a doctorate in education at Harvard. Alonso was interviewed on NBC News last night about how federal stimulus money is helping to keep his school system running smoothly this year despite the economy. Alonso brings an interesting background to the job having worked for one of the top law firms in Washington, DC as well as a teacher in inner city Newark, New Jersey. He was the deputy chancellor of the New York City schools...

This Unique Id is good for everyone, T.N.Seshan was recommending this way back in 1988. but the Present Ruling party at that time never agreed because they cannot do hacking polling booths but now it is all very easy.. Guess what.... the EVM electronic voting machines! get rid of that first go back to ballot papers, see who wins and who looses and how people of India are enlightened about the politics. Do they really ahve the guts to do that??

Those of you who follow H-1B developments know that a memo issued last month essentially tries to bar H-1B use when the employer places the worker at a third party site. The aim was to target IT staffing companies in an attempt to deflect criticism from Senator Chuck Grassley. Despite the fact that there are a whole host of unintended consequences (for example, doctors in some states are actually barred by law from being employed by the hospitals where they work and must be employed by physician groups - bet you didn't think doctors' practices were staffing companies, but they...

The Governor has filed her response to the motion argued in court today to delay the implementation of Arizona's SB1070 law on July 24th. Reader USC has discussed some of the arguments in the comments. In short, Arizona is arguing that illegal immigration is costing the state serious money and delaying implementation will economically damage the state. Also, they argue that illegal immigrants are dangerous criminals and the citizens of Arizona are in grave danger each day this law is not implemented. Too bad the data doesn't back up either. On the crime issue, here are the facts. On the...
